Good Friday at 3:00 p.m. has always been a significant day and time for Catholics around the world. The day had particular significance for Catholics in Indianapolis, Indiana this year during Holy Week as Monsignor Joseph F. Schaedel, from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, led the blessing of the groundbreaking for Phase I of the Prince of Peace Mausoleum at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
The chapel mausoleum, which is being built by Gibraltar Mausoleum Construction Company, will include 774 crypts in the first phase. For people who choose cremation, the building will offer 70 exterior niches and 32 niches around the base of an octagonal-shaped fountain positioned at the central atrium.
“There is a growing demand for above-ground entombment in our community,” explained Don Masten, manager of Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. “Our current mausoleum, which was built 10 years ago, only has 10% of the space still available. “Through our efforts to educate families about the comparable pricing that mausoleum entombment offers as compared to ground burial, we are experiencing steady growth in mausoleum entombment.”
